Improving Storage Cabinets-Or Adding More
One of the best ways to increase capacity of cabinets is to outfit them with specialized storage units for more efficient use of space. Even if you are not planning on replacing your cabinetry, many of these items can be added to existing units.
- Install turntables in corner cabinets to allow easy access to all items.
- In base cabinets put in vertical dividers for shallow pans and serving platters.
- Upper cabinets should have adjustable shelving to allow storage to be tailored to the exact size of items to be stored.
Upper cabinet doors also provide a handy spot for spice and condiment storage racks. If you're still short of storage, consider adding cabinets or shelves in previously unused space:
- Cabinets extended to the ceiling will give you storage space that is often overlooked.
- Twelve inch deep tall "pantry type" cabinets are a great addition along a wall which will not accommodate a standard depth base units.
- Bench type seating in the breakfast nook might be a great way to stretch the space.
- A 24" deep cabinet above the refrigerator will be reachable-as well as usable.
